Taylor Thomson, heir to the Thomson Reuters family, lost over $80 million in cryptocurrency investments after following advice from a psychic. Reportedly, Thomson, with the assistance of former close friend Ashley Richardson, invested over $140 million in crypto assets during the 2021 bull market, with funds distributed across multiple wallets. The two had previously sought investment advice from a psychic, after which Richardson became deeply involved in asset management.
The crypto market downturn in 2022 led to a significant shrinkage in the investment portfolio. Consulting firm Guidepost Solutions accused Richardson of executing over 450,000 unauthorized transactions and employing high-risk strategies, resulting in Thomson's substantial losses. Richardson denied the allegations, claiming all actions were based on Thomson's instructions and that there was no formal contract between them. Thomson filed a lawsuit against Richardson and related company Persistence in 2023. While a settlement has been reached with Persistence, the lawsuit against Richardson is still ongoing.
