Malicious software Inferno Drainer makes a comeback, stealing $9 million from cryptocurrency wallets in nearly 6 months

According to Decrypt, the latest report from cybersecurity firm Check Point Research (CPR) shows that the cryptocurrency theft malware Inferno Drainer, which claimed to have ceased operations in November 2023, is still active and has stolen over $9 million in the past six months. This malicious software has cumulatively attacked over 30000 encrypted wallets, mainly targeting Ethereum and BNB Chain users. Researchers have found that Inferno Drainer's smart contracts continue to operate after deployment in 2023, with the latest version adopting single use smart contracts and on chain encryption configurations, significantly improving concealment. Its command controls the server to perform obfuscation communication through a proxy system, making attacks more difficult to trace. Recently, this malicious software has been phishing by forging the verification interface of the well-known Discord robot Collab. Land, using "subtle visual differences" to induce users to sign malicious transactions. CPR warning, as genuine Collab. Land requires wallet signature verification, experienced users may also lower their vigilance. CPR recommends that users verify the authenticity of the platform before connecting their wallets.
