Odaily Planet Daily reported that US prosecutors have charged Iurii Gugnin, the founder of cryptocurrency payment company Evita, with evading sanctions and violating export controls, accusing him of laundering over $500 million and assisting Russia in obtaining sensitive technology. According to court documents released by the Brooklyn Federal Court, Gugnin was charged with telecommunications and banking fraud, money laundering, and other crimes on Monday. The Department of Justice stated that he was arrested and brought to trial in New York. The prosecution accuses Gugnin of using his company to pay for sensitive electronic products for overseas clients, including servers designed by the United States that are subject to export controls, and of using money laundering to purchase components for the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom).
